The first hole is a challenging Par 3, although one of the shorter holes and one of the lower indexes on the course with a large green. Missing the putting surface can create alot of different problems as the Desmond Castle to the rear is out of bounds and bunkers are found left and right of the green.

The ruins of an old castle wall come in to the left accompanied by large trees make an accurate iron shot essential.
